Portrait of a Lady

“Portrait of a Lady” is a popular essay by Jerome Klapka Jerome, an outstanding British writer and humourist (1859 – 1927). Halting on a stopover at an inn in one of hamlets, the author chances upon a portrait of a young girl in a book-case, her face being very familiar to him. But he couldn't recollect where and when he had seen her.
